March 10th was the first day at SXSW and it was a fun learning experience. Went the wrong direction in the convention center…missed my first scheduled session. As I was standing in front of one of the Exhibit Halls trying to re-group. I realized the Cory Richards-National Geographic Photographer and mountain climber was about to speak in 20 minutes. Went in got a great seat and texted Jennifer and Jo-anna to join me…What a presentation!
The day ended by seeing the movie Colossal staring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis. Fantastic Q&A. fun dark comedy. #sheiscolossal.

My first time to really badge up and dive into the middle of everything.
I want to be able to post on twitter and this blog while I'm on the go.
So I thought I would see if I could actually post a blog from my cell.
After a corporate event at the end of May this year I realized that I had gained almost all my weight back from what was a successful program three years ago.
Today I have lost 21 lbs. in the last 8 weeks. I have moved the recumbent exercise bike inside the house and I am riding it 5 to 6 days a week. Today I can stay at for 30 minutes at a time. When I first started I could hardly go 5 minutes at the lowest resistance. I am able to mow my own yard again. Although I am not too sure that should have been a goal.
I am using the Weight Watchers app/online to track my daily food and activity. And it is working.
So for now I just needed to share that you can start over and not give up. I wish all the folks that have rejoined ATX 100 and Paul Carrozza all the best. You can find them on Facebook...ATX100

I just keep trying, but I am not making in real progress. I have drawn a line in the sand and refuse to gain any more weight. 395 lbs. is it! Still down from where I was years ago 410 lbs. These last few years is the first time in my life I haven't gained back all the weight I have lost...plus some.
Some good news for some of you, Paul Carrozza has restarted the ATX 100 program and you can find him and a lot of the original group on Facebook.
Don't know why I picked today to start blogging again....
Oh well...try to stay healthy and enjoy life.
2013 was a very different year for Michele and me. It actually goes back to late December 2012 when I had heart spasms while undergoing tests. That caused a bit of a scare which was later resolved with January 2013 follow up.
Seriously that is all I have to say….Wow! The campaign is over and I did not win.
The last four months of campaigning has been a challenge and very rewarding. I have been able to meet a lot of people and listen to their concerns about the future of Kyle.
I walked a lot but my eating schedule was way off. The good news, I am back to tracking what I eat on my Weight Watchers app and catching up on my rest. I think Michele and I are even going to be able to get away for a weekend and veg out.
I intend to rest around the hotel pool and take a nap. This will be a good weekend to bring back some of what I have learned about making better choices when eating out. One of the things I do is go online and look at the restaurant’s menu. I look it over and decide what I am going to eat before I get there. That way I am less tempted to wonder around the menu.
Over the next few weeks I will begin to walk on a daily basis and keep tracking what I eat. It is time to find out what all the ATX people are up to.

Are you kidding me!
The really good thing about running (walking actually) for public office is getting out into all the neighborhoods and talking with the voters. I have been doing a lot of walking. As some of you know I live in Kyle, Texas. And I decided to run for City Council...an at-large seat. That is right, the whole city of Kyle. So that is a lot of walking.
Eating Right? That is another story. Sometimes I have gone all day and realize that I haven't eaten...Not good! Then I want to grab the first thing that I can find. I haven't had a cheese burger in almost 6 months. And yet at 3:00 pm one afternoon I pulled into Whataburger and that was that.
Coffee and peanut butter. If I had to list everything I have eaten in the last two months the list would be topped by coffee and peanut butter. Oh, and honey. If it is too late to eat but I need something...spoon full of peanut butter and honey knocks the edge off. At least it is reduced fat peanut butter. Boy do I miss My Fit Foods!
And if you noticed that Starbucks' stock has gone up recently....that is because I am getting the fat free latte with the turkey egg white breakfast sandwich for breakfast most mornings.
So all you ATX people keep up the good work. I know you are re-grouping and holding it together. There will be times when everything doesn't seem to go according to plan. But I feel like I have learned enough to improvise and to know that I don't want to give up on living healthier. So I just try every day to make the best choices I can when I can.
If you don't count cheeseburgers!

There were three candidates and no one received the majority vote so I am in a runoff.
My diet these last five weeks has consisted primarly of coffee and peanut butter. Occasionlly some honey. sneaks in...
I know that the ATX 100 group is working out some details regarding meeting place and schedule.
Don't give up on getting fit.

As many of you know I am running for City Council in Kyle....you know Kyle. Your neighbor to the south.
Best way I have found to get votes is to get out on the streets and walk door to door. It has been fun and rewarding. It has been an amazing learning experience and one I will not forget.
So while you all are walking the capital grounds or running the obstacle course at Shadow Glen...think of me walking the streets of Kyle.
I just wanted to take a moment and catch up on the last few months. Six months ago I planned a series of health related exams…all the appropriate exams for a man of my age. Two out of three are checked off the list and now all that is left is an annual physical in three weeks. I am clear to go back at it again.
Even though I don’t feel like I have remained on track, it is interesting to hear one of my doctors comment on how much weight I have lost. (I did not want to tell him I have gained 10 pounds back) He was very happy to see that I had lost over 50 pounds. Sometimes you just have to take the victories where ever they come from.
It was also exciting to attend the ATX Recommitment Party at RunTex. I do get some satisfaction from knowing that an idea of mine could grow into something so positive. However, ideas without action are nothing and James Russell has led the way. And all of you who have been with this since the beginning and those that are new….you are the reason that a tribe of people with a common purpose have flourished.
So things are well and I wish you all the best. In a few more weeks you will see me back on the town lake trail.
