A lot has happened in the last 5 years. To begin with I met Michele5 years ago and on December 8th we will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary.
5 years ago tomorrow I finished the 5 Mile Turkey Trot and had lost over 40 pounds participating in a group weight loss program “One Ton A- Fun”. As soon as I crossed the finish line, I stopped exercising. And for some unknown reason, consciously or sub-consciously, I stopped focusing on my health. Not only did I regained that 40 pounds but reached an all time high of 418 pounds.
It took me a long time to get serious and realize that I have a whole lot of living left to do…
I began in a small way to do better. When the progress wasn’t enough I started Weight Watchers at 410.4 pounds and started exercising. This blog was started back in May and an idea led to a bunch of people trying to lose weight and get healthier. The ATX 100 group was started. There are now over 80 people with a common goal to lose 100 pounds and get healthier.
All the above is old news. If you have been reading this blog you know most of this already.
Last Saturday Michele and I walked the Freedom Run 5K. We finished but came in last overall. But we were happy and felt like we had made serious progress. And we crossed the finish line together. It was exciting to see so many of the ATX 100 group out and having fun exercising.
Today, I am madly in love with my wife. I feel like I am making a difference at my job. My family is healthy and happy. And in some small way, maybe I am helping others get healthier. At my last weigh in I was 362.8 pounds. My next weigh in will be next Thursday December 1st. I am officially closing in on 50 pounds lost.
Before I started this blog I set a goal to lose 100 pounds and walk the Capital 10k next March.
5 years, 5k, 50 pounds, 65 years old…I am half way there.
And Michele, I love you more than Cupcakes!
What a week - 4.4 lbs lost. I am getting close to a – 50 lbs total. Not that losing 50 lbs is the end all of this process, but it makes for a nice benchmark.
I am a BIT behind on the blog mainly because of some technical difficulties. So I have some catching up to do.
Saturday November 19th was the first planned event or walk for the ATX 100 group. The Freedom Run 5K at Camp Mabry. I might insert here, every time you see the word RUN feel free to translate that to the word WALK. As a tune up for that I walked 3.2 miles at our normal ATX 100 Saturday meeting on November 12th. It was a beautiful day and maybe for the first time in my life I really enjoyed the experience. The sun was shining and walking along the Trail at Lady Bird Lake was a pleasure.
The week as a whole went according to plan. Tracked my points, walked or rode the exercise bike and the results were good. I have completely overcome the 2.6 gain from the weekend in Cleveland losing 6 lbs in the last two weeks.
Again, anytime I can have back to back losses is great progress. By now I am getting use to the ups and downs on the scale as long as over the long haul the net is down. I know I am stronger and healthier and that is all good.
Back from that great weekend in Cleveland and back on track. This week I lost 1.6…didn’t get it all back but I am really excited about the way things are going.
We have been very busy. Michele and I have both been on the go and I am really looking forward to the holidays and the pace slowing down a bit.
Not a whole lot to say about this last week’s efforts. Stayed the course…I tracked what I ate, stayed within my points and got in some exercise. Both knees have been giving me a lot of pain, but I will get back with you on that.
Just glad to be able to settle back into the routine and still keep moving forward.
I have more catching up to do...be back to you with more.
I weighed in yesterday and I gained 2.6 lbs.
Not a great number but is was an awesome week. Michele and I went to Cleveland for a long weekend to visit her parents and family. On Sunday Michele’s family and a few friends all got together in Sarah’s new barn and had a clam bake. (Sarah is Michele’s niece) I made all the decisions about what I ate, some were great, some were pretty good…and then there were homemade chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake cupcakes and creamy clam chowder. Those weren’t the good decisions.
Sarah told me if I gained weight I couldn’t blame it on Cleveland. And she is right. My health…My choices. I can say I made more good choices then I ever would have made a year ago. I call that progress.
In the last 14 days I have been on the road 8 days, spent 5 nights in hotels and enjoyed a great weekend with Michele’s family. But reality is I ate out more than half my meals. And my choices were about the same…half great and half not so good. My net weight gain during that time, plus 1.0 lbs. I am back home 3 days and I am back on track eating right.
For now, with a sense of accountability, I am smiling. And yes I gained 2.6 lbs.
